Sea freight is the transportation method with the largest trade volume in international trade. Sea freight has obvious advantages, low and stable prices, and high safety factors in the transportation process. Many of our partners choose sea freight as the main mode of transportation for goods, so it is inevitable to encounter various problems during the sea freight process. Today, we will raise container related questions to answer your questions.

Container weight limit

First of all, when it comes to container warehousing, what everyone is most concerned about is the weight related container issue, that is, what if the container is overweight?

The container will be marked with the maximum weight limit information, such as MAX GROSS: 30480KGS. The total weight of the standard box plus the goods cannot exceed the marked weight. The tare weight -20GP: is 2200KGS, 40 is 3.720-4200KGS, and some HQ may have MAX GROSS: 32000KGS.297b1f90ccd119c673a3af90cb91636dd05c9b4a.gif

The hazards of being overweight

Once the maximum weight of the container is exceeded, it may cause damage such as deformation of the container body, bending of the top beam, and loosening of the bottom plate. The ultimate loss is the sole responsibility of the shipper. In order to reduce this situation, major ports in China are equipped with automatic weighing equipment. As long as the overall weight of the container exceeds the limit weight, ports have the right to refuse, Therefore, it is recommended that freight forwarders pay extra attention to whether the weight of the customer's goods and containers matches the standard of total weight less than the maximum weight limit during booking and customs clearance operations.

We have provided detailed reasons and solutions for overweight issues that occur in different transportation links.

Port area overweight: Port area overweight refers to overweight at the port of origin. As mentioned earlier, the port area has its own prescribed weight, and the port's own weight standard is defined based on the load of operating equipment at the port and yard. Because mechanical equipment such as cranes, trucks, and forklifts are indispensable in the loading, unloading, and handling process of goods at the port, the weight of the container must also meet the maximum load of these equipment. Moreover, all major ports are equipped with automatic weighing scales, so as long as there is an overall overweight container of goods, it will definitely be detected.

Solution: Pay the overweight fee or unload the container with the port area.576e1f4746fdbc08a27b06976de287496327da92.gif

Shipping company overweight: Each shipping company has different weight limit standards, but they all adhere to the premise of not damaging the container. The contradiction between overweight in shipping companies is concentrated in the balance between cabin and weight. Container ships have strict cabin and weight restrictions, but in actual route operations, cabin and weight are usually unable to achieve complete balance. Therefore, in order to compensate for the losses caused by this difference, shipping companies will adopt a pricing strategy, which is to charge additional freight for overweight goods. In addition, during the period of explosion, the shipping company will relatively lower the weight limit requirements for standard containers.

Solution: When shipping, consult with the freight forwarder for complete shipping company weight limit guidelines, especially for heavy cargo transportation. In case of causing the shipper to tow, depart, pick up, and weigh again, these costs will exceed the budget.

Overweight at destination port: Overweight at destination port and overweight at origin port are basically the same. For small ports with relatively outdated equipment, the shipping company will inform the shipper and freight forwarder in advance of the weight limit at the port. If the weight exceeds the limit, it will be rejected.

Solution: Pay a large penalty. If the weight exceeds the limit load of the operating equipment by too much, the container can only be unloaded or transported back by the original route.

Freight forwarders should pay special attention to the fact that in order to avoid losses to customers due to overweight situations, the weight of the goods should be determined in advance when booking. All aspects of sea export need to be confirmed before customs declaration and shipment.
