According to a news report on February 14th, China announced at the 39th African Union Summit that it will fully implement a zero-tariff policy for 53 African countries with which it has established diplomatic relations starting from May 1st, 2026.
In addition to implementing zero tariffs, China will also continue to promote the negotiation of a comprehensive economic partnership agreement, and further expand the access of African products to China through measures such as upgrading the "green channel".
All 53 African countries that have diplomatic relations with China are included in this zero-tariff initiative. The breakdown by region is as follows:
North Africa: Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco
East Africa: Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Seychelles, Comoros, South Sudan, Mauritius
Central Africa: Sudan, Chad, Central Africa, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo (Brazzaville), Congo (Kinshasa), São Tomé and Príncipe
West Africa: Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Mali, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Niger, Nigeria, Cape Verde
South Africa: Angola, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Madagascar
