The latest official announcement released by MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) and CMA CGM on March 4th indicates that the shipping giants are undergoing a round of aggressive strategic adjustments, and the warning signal of a shortage of capacity on the Europe route is becoming increasingly intense.
MSC has taken the lead in announcing an increase in the spot freight rate for the Europe route to $4,000 per FEU. Soon after, shipping giants such as CMA CGM and Maersk also sent out signals, and the overall market sentiment is bullish.
Shipping giants are strategically giving up some medium and short-haul routes with lower profits and instead prioritizing their limited vessel capacity to safeguard the more profitable and in-demand long-haul routes such as those to Europe and the United States.
